Or, if your less about building, and more about traveling, you can also rent this cozy place on Airbnb. The tiny home trend has taken the internet by storm, spawning versions of all types, from modern modular to the a-frame cabin. But some of these small spaces might actually put a huge dent in your wallet—certain tiny homes can cost upwards of tens of thousands of dollars.
Blogger Alla Ponomareva and her husband Garrett found a cheaper way, though: the couple was able to build their own tiny A-frame home for a steal of $700—and it was completed in just three weeks.
So how exactly did they get away with this?
Using an A-frame cabin design they found online from Derek “Deek” Diedrickson, the couple set off to build a tiny guest home on their property in Missoula, Montana. They were able to keep the price cheap—around $500 cheaper than was estimated for the design—due to using numerous upcycled materials like window frames, nails, roofing, and other features.
Since the cabin was just 80 square feet, they knew it wouldn’t take too long for the tiny home project to come to life.
When the couple’s family and friends aren’t staying in the cabin on their 20-acre plot of land, they rent it out on Airbnb for $100 a night—it can even sleep three comfortably once the beds are pushed together (although one guest will have to sleep on the floor…or in the hammock).
The A-frame cabin is completely off the grid, but Alla and Garrett purchased a small solar panel that can power a light and charge a few phones.
A portable toilet and solar powered shower are also less than a minute’s walk away from the cabin, and hammocks and chairs dot the property for ultimate relaxation and star-gazing opportunities.
